Tips to remember when building your Granny Flat!
Building a Granny Flat for the first time can be a daunting experience. It’s a long process typically stretched out over the course of three to four months. Client’s are expected to finalise design and placement, as well as make all external and internal selections within this time, which to many can be a stressful experience.
Did I choose the right design to suit me? Do the colours work? Will it look small?
It’s the questions that are continuously on repeat in a client’s mind from the start of the process, until the end. To help simplify this process, we have created a list of some key features we believe work best when it comes to building your Granny Flat.
Choosing a design is one of the most challenging parts of building your Granny Flat, simply because there is so much to choose from. The location of the bedrooms; how many bathrooms are needed; the layout. There are so many questions to ask.
Here at RESCON, we spend time getting to know the client. That way not only can we recommend floor plans that suit your block, but also your lifestyle.
We offer a large variety of modern floor plans. The majority of our floor plans offer open plan living which helps to create an illusion of a larger, more open space. This allows your Granny flat to seem larger and is the favorable option among our clients. Currently, our most popular floor plans is the STELLA floor plan, which can be found by clicking here . It is a timeless floor plan, guaranteed to impress.
One, two or three bedroom?
When deciding on how many bedrooms you would like to have in your new home, it’s crucial to think about your intentions and reason for building the Granny Flat. Is your Granny Flat for personal or investment purposes?
If the Granny Flat is for investment use we always recommend opting for a two bedroom, 60sqm floor plan, which guarantees weekly income and is in greater demand.
If it is for personal use we take into account your personal situation and recommend what would work best to meet your needs. A one bedroom Granny Flat would be fantastic for a single individual, whereas a three bedroom Granny Flat would be more suited to a family or multiple individuals.
Lighter, more neutral colours are always recommended in your new Granny Flat. Lighter colours reflect light and increase the room’s brightness, helping to crease an illusion of openness in comparison to darker finishes.
If you would like to add some colour, you can always do so by adding a stand-out splash back kitchen tile or decorate with your furnishings later. This helps to add colour without compromising the feel of your new home.
During your selections process, RESCON’s onsite colour consultant will take you through this process step-by-step, helping you choose the perfect finishes for your new home, so you never have to worry about making a wrong decision!
